Gentlemen Add Character to Broker's Gin

Broker's Grows in Popularity in the U.S.

LONDON—Behind Broker’s Premium London Dry Gin are English brothers Martin and Andy Dawson who have developed an award-winning, premium product while quite literally tipping their hats to its London heritage. Introduced in the U.S. in 2001, Broker’s is winning a growing fan base.

Unlike traditional gin brands, which tend to be taken seriously, Broker’s London Dry Gin has a more light-hearted and humorous approach. Every bottle “wears” a bowler hat.  And so do the Dawsons, who use dry English humor (or humour) to popularize their “gin for gentlemen.”

Andy, a self-proclaimed “realist,” left behind a 30-year career in the oil and gas business to join his brother in creating Broker’s gin.  Martin calls himself the “ideas man,” working on company sales and marketing.  They like to end their day with the perfect drink—a Broker’s and tonic.

“It’s refreshing, not too strong and easy to make,” said Andy Dawson.

“We couldn’t find a gin out there that was exactly what we wanted so we decided to make our own,” explained Martin. Their unique brand is imported and distributed in the U.S. by Hood River Distillers Inc., Hood River, Ore.  A 750ml bottle retails for about $20.

Since the brand’s inception in 2000, awards and accolades have followed. Broker’s was named best gin by Food and Wine Magazine and won a gold medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It’s also the gin of choice for the London Stock Exchange and the British Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Broker’s is made in a 200-year old gin distillery outside London.  A traditional copper pot still is used, giving it hand-crafted character. The raw ingredients are triple-distilled spirits, made from English wheat, and 10 natural botanicals sourced from around the world.
